I love adding chia seeds to my son’s fruit and yogurt. So, when Valentine’s Day was just around the corner, I thought why not form the chia seeds in the shape of a heart. In this case, I served the chia seeds with coconutmilk yogurt and strawberries.
This is the technique I used to create the heart shape. I hope you enjoy and find this tutorial helpful 🙂

Bamboo Bowl: Avanchy
Spoon: Kiddobloom
Step By Step Instructions:
- Cut a long sheet of parchment paper in half. The cut sheets of paper should be larger than the bowl or the plate that the hearts will be created in.
- Fold one of the papers in half
- Decide how big or small you would like your heart to be. Then, trace and cut a half heart shape along the folded edge of the paper.
- Crumble the parchment paper so it’s pliable. Be careful when undoing it so the heart shape doesn’t tear. Crumbling the parchment paper makes it easy to work with it.
- Place the heart shape where you’d like your chia heart to be located. Lightly push it down to set
- Pour chia seeds over the heart
- Lightly tap it with the back of a spoon
- Gently move the extra chia seeds as far down and away from the heart as possible. I’ve also found it works best if you use something with a thin tip to move the chia seeds. Something like a pairing knife or an offset spatula.
- Gently and slowly lift the paper. Some of the chia seeds might fall onto the yogurt which is okay. It’s easy to fix
- Remove the extra chia seeds that might’ve fallen onto the yogurt and define the shape of the heart. I’ve found using a pairing knife to do this works best.
- At this point, you may add more hearts or just add your desired toppings to the yogurt.
- If adding more hearts, follow the same process using a new sheet of parchment paper. You may add hearts of different sizes 🙂
