Tzatziki Sauce

This homemade Tzatziki Sauce recipe is how it was prepared and served at my house growing up. It’s so delicious and refreshing to the palate, especially during those hot summer days. In addition, the yogurt provides calcium and probiotics.

Note: Please check with your pediatrician before serving yogurt to your infant. Yogurt is usually okay to serve to infants at or after 9 months of age.

I included garlic in this recipe because I love garlic and because garlic has many health benefits. If you are not a fan of garlic, please feel free to leave it out. The Tzatziki will still taste good. Another option is add a small piece of garlic. Either way it will still be delicious.

Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of plain yogurt, I like to use whole milk yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon of minced dill
  • 1 medium garlic clove
  • 3/4 cup grated cucumber
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

Instructions:

Add the yogurt to a small bowl.

Mince a garlic clove. Add a very small pinch of salt (this will assist in mashing the garlic). Using a fork, mash the garlic until it forms a paste. Add the garlic paste to the yogurt and mix.

Also add the minced dill, grated cucumber and the salt to the yogurt.

Note: You may spoon some of the Tzatziki without the added salt into your little one’s bowl/plate, then add the salt to the Tzatziki in the bowl, to taste, for the rest of the family.

Mix everything together and serve.

May be served next to chicken, quinoa, roasted vegetables, lentils,  just about anything. It adds flavor and elevates every dish.
